Which ones? Just do a monotype run or rotate between 30 or more Pokémon if you need more challenge depending on whether you're playing gen 1-5 versus 6 7 or 8

It's really easy. first of all do not play anything beyond gen 5 (it's garbage).
Emulate the games, this also allows you to avoid FOMO and OCD inducing shit, as you can just cheat to make certain pokemons, item and events appear for completion purposes.
Also just try to create a team organically, like if you see a pokemon and feel like using it, just do it, do not stick to boring meta shit.

Just do what you want. You have quite a lot of freedom in how you want to play Pokemon games.
Stick with your starter or box it.
Catch all pokemon you see and fill out the pokedex as you go along.
Nuzlocke or not.
Raise a team or use less than 6 pokemon.
