For as much as pokefags love to complain, they're a global nonstop franchise and don't get shafted as much as Soncifags have in the past 20 years. That forces a already huge and older fanbase to pick up the slack during long droughts. Pokemon has similar autism and pedigree but never much the need. Like country on the verge of revolutionary but never enough, since they're always thrown some slop and circuses.
That and I guess platformers, especially one uniquely tied to Sonic's gameplay, has a higher barrier to entry than Pokemon, literally meant to be baby's first RPG.
