It's true, I like Pokemon but I don't like things like FF, Dragon Quest or even Digimon because if I can't go against friends with my trained party there's not much of a point in my eyes. Pokemon offers a huge degree of freedom to how you train too.
It's roughly the equivalent of someone saying they're good at FPS/fighting games but have never played a multiplayer FPS/fighting game, just single player stuff.
