The number they come up with for adult gamers is always over exagerated. This largely comes down too asking people if they "play games" rather than asking what hardware they own. If you look deeper you find most of these people mean phone games and casual games.

Take the ammount of american ps5's and x box ones and switchs sold in the us by population. You'll find its actually a fraction of the US population

Finally you don't see pokemon commercials on cnn . Thats cause adults are not buying pokemon, kids are, which is why nintendo invests ad dollars into kids content
