Skimming this because I ain't reading all that shit, and I swear I've read this exact same argument for like 10 different fandoms. As someone who was around back in the day and has been somewhat present now (you couldn't pay me to actually interact with any fandom these days the way I did when I was a teenager) OP is right about how old submas stuff was. Subway Boss fans have always been cringe (I am not immune either) but instead of incest shipping it's been replaced with angst and LGBT headcanons that cannot be refuted or confirmed but are tacked on almost carelessly for the sake of having LGBT headcanons. I just do not care about what the fans are actually doing and I'm merely sneaking around to collect good art, but I am glad that I don't have to pretend to like shipping the Subway Bosses together because it was the only thing the fandom actually did in the 2010s. Though now I have to wade through shit like the aforementioned autism posting and weird AUs (which were a thing back then, too.) Monkey's paw curled a finger.
