Yes, absolutely. It makes sense to have a special counterpart to burn instead of a gimmicky status effect that completely fucks up momentum in games.

While we're at it, change paralysis to no longer prevent a pokemon from acting, but cuts it's speed stat by 50% instead of 30%.

Though I don't like how para can straight up takes a turn away from you, it should do a little more than just a speed drop. Like, it decreases your speed by 1.5x and there is a 30% (or 50%) chance you will move last in the turn order.

Freeze is nice, but it's so uncommon that no one really runs a "freeze" strategy. I think frostbite is better. I can't remember how PLA works, buy it should also lower SpAtk to mirror burn.

The problem with freeze is that there's no strategy to it. The status is too overpowered to have a move dedicated to inflicting it, so it ends up just being a random element that you can't really rely on.
Frostbite is much better. Not in its current state, but if GF adds a frostbite equivalent to Will-O-Wisp, or a frostbite-inducing ability, I think it would be good.

They should definitely replace freeze with frostbite. Changing Sleep I'm not sure about, making it a less debilitating status would really hurt the weak Pokemon who get the most out of it (Parasect, Butterfree, Smeargle, etc.). Sleep should probably stay as is.

Modify freeze so that it always lasts 2-4 turns, and ends early if you take direct damage. You thaw out at double speed while in intense sunlight or if you have the Early Bird ability.

If you want to represent "freeze then shatter for massive damage" then have frozen foes gain Ice as an additional type, similar to Trick-or-Treat.

How would it nerf ice types? Water types cause more freezing anyway because more people use them. At least with frostbite GF in an ideal scenario would be able to make an auto frostbite move and give it reasonable distribution among ice types primarily.

Freezing hurts offense more than stall. The average stall player would either thaw it with scald or heal bell, or would just rotate their regen core like usual and appreciate the lack of PP wasting on the turns they don’t switch.

Can someone explain to me why we need a special version of burn? Seriously, physical moves are more high reward and sometime high risk and have more beneficial status moves that have more distribution amount among Pokémon and abilities that actually support their attack stats, one which even neglects burn. Special attackers barely have this with some either being signatures moves, abilities, or low distribution. This doesn't make sense.

How bout we nerf Ice Beam to ~60 base power, then replace it with another analogous move (Freeze Ray?) that has ~80-90 base power instead so that Water types don't get to be better by the virtue of their type matchups? Hell, why not go the extra mile and make Ice a bit better defensively so that it doesn't eat shit all the fucking time? Like, I dunno, making it so Fighting-type resists Ice, but in turn loses its super-effectiveness?

I'd rather see them redesign Freeze. Make it break on all direct damage or after one turn, whichever comes first. Then have all direct damage on frozen targets be critical hits. Now there's counterplay to Freeze; you could potentially attack your partner to thaw them out with a weak move.

I'm against having special equivalents of things like burn and intimidate. I want special attack and physical attack to feel different, rather than just being two arbitrarily different numbers that effectively act the same. The difference is supposed to be (in general) that physical attackers have a lot more stuff to deal with (such as burns and intimidate) but the trade-off is that physical attackers generally have much wider movepools with a bunch of different attacks to choose from. Special attackers don't have these issues, but they usually have much more limited movesets, like water types generally only having surf + ice beam, electric types needing to rely on hidden power for coverage, etc. And the pokemon that don't have poor special coverage are notable for the variety they have, such as Nidoking.

Frostbite would actually give them a massive buff since it is far more suitable for both Scald-like moves with high application chance and for Will-o-Wisp-like moves that directly apply the effect, which means that they both get better moves and are immune to a much more common status.

Again, far more common status, and both of the lines that have the ability are special attackers.

That 10% chance is meager. You need a plan to deal with stall without a condition that is unlikely to materialise.

Assuming GF is actually competent, they'd add a frostbite equivalent to Will-O-Wisp, which would end up buffing ice types by giving them a consistent and reliable status.

Stallniggers already use Scald on their Toxapex and Slowkings, and wouldn't keep Amoongus in against an ice type.

Yes and only ice types should be able to use ice moves. If GF wants a water type to use ice moves, it should be duel typed to be neutrally defensive against fire.

I mean, there effectively isn’t one other than what is affected by a given stat, buff or debuff. Maybe there was more of one before, but even then barely. Nobody is choosing between physical and special on a risk/reward basis, it’s entirely dependent on what’s strongest on the best pokemon.
