I kinda agree with this. They're not even trying anymore. What was the point of showing 4 players doing absolutely nothing but running through a field with very lazy animations.

The fact they're even keeping the gimmick a secret is telling me that a huge controversy is coming.

im not saying I want to know everything but just the lack of care by TPC is sad, hype season is supposed to be fun, it's what keeps people excited for pokemon except now it's like they want us to forget about it until release, plus it's a new gen, just sad

I'm gonna be honest, sv has a very shitty art style compared to swsh
it simply doesn't feel like pokemon anymore, and I'm not interested at all
just gonna wait until next year's pokemon day to see what path this franchise is going

Wait until they reveal the map and it's just le empty PLA map with one hub town and empty fields lol.
Gyms the only buildings/dungeons around.

It's good. XY, SM and Swsh before dexit announcement are overhyped mediocre games. PLA has small amount of trailers and GF not hyping this game until bdsp release, and everyone like PLA. Hyping pokemon games is a bad thing. You remember sm? They literally spoiled 99% game content before games release and demo datamine happened and starter final evolution leaked sooner, than we got middle stages trailer

It was still hype until the dex cut was announced. Sure the graphics were criticized, but Corviknight and Dreadnaw were great designs and it motivated people to speculate about starter evos. But after E3 2019, hype was dead for sure. And now with SV, it's hard to find anyone who is optimistic about the future of pokemon

I was here on /vp/ for BW hype season and I can tell you that it's definitely not the same. I think a big part of it is that Corocoro scans were a thing back then and clearly aren't anymore, but even SuMo and SwSh pre-release didn't feel this bland. SuMo had UBs to have people speculate and we still got a small trickle of new Pokemon designs to keep us entertained. SwSh, for better or for worse, had Dexit stir up some discussion and... and... the forest livestream? It was mostly Dexit keeping discussion alive, sadly. But right now there's nothing to talk about with SV that hasn't already been discussed a bunch by now. I know it's early and we only just got our first trailer after the initial reveal, but the trailers have been extremely barebones. PLA I believe had the problem of most of the gameplay being exploring since it's open-world, so there wasn't a lot to showcase without just spoiling the entire game in terms of revealing Pokemon designs and plot elements. It was mostly forgiven for being lacking in content because we JUST got BDSP months before the release and people were still somewhat discussing SwSh and its DLC. In fact, I often hear people criticize revealing Gen 9 too "early", as if we weren't ready to move on yet because PLA came out just a month or two prior to the reveal trailer.

I don't know about anybody else, but to me it's likely that they're testing a new marketing strategy of keeping their players guessing by withholding a lot of info to keep things a mystery and fresh when the games release, and while I really do appreciate the sentiment since going in blind is probably the best way to enjoy any game, but they're boring the shit out of their fans by not giving us something to actually talk about. It was a slog waiting for PLA to release because of them being so tight-lipped and it's starting to look like a slog now. It can still change but I have a bad feeling about all this after how dumb they were about PLA.

The hype season for gen 7 was ridiculous though. They basically revealed all the interesting Pokemon before release. Ever few weeks we got a new reveal trailer. It was great for hype, but bad for the enjoyment of the actual games. They overdid it.

I wouldn't call this marketing strategy new since I can recall SWSH being just as try and only really became interesting when the leaker posted but I do agree they posted the trailers far too early. PLA and BDSP just fucking came out months prior.
GF will create burnout if they just keep pumping out mainline games.
