Deep down you know this to be true. It’s not canon in the sense that the company who owns the license says gen 1 is the only true gen, but it’s canon because it contains the original artistic SOVL of what Pokémon is.
In its truest form, Pokémon existed most purely when there were 151 Pokémon. There was a time when those were the only Pokémon, and that time was the most accurate incarnation of Pokémon
They can legally claim other gens are canon, but the absolute god damn truth is that the truest, and ONLY true form of Pokémon is generation 1
