So I have a "pen-pal" like friend in Japan, and I know for a fact he's worked on Pokemon stuff before. He is definitely the type to give false information on purpose so even I take all of this with a grain of salt, but he had previously told me things like the legendaries being bikes and there being version exclusive professors before it was announced, so I asked him to spill what else he knew when it somehow turned out he wasn't bullshitting me and here's some of the details. His English isn't amazing, and apparently very few Pokemon names and stuff are the same between languages so we didn't even bother with that. A lot of this stuff has also been interpreted by me to be in an understandable state. When I mention a name, it's one I've put together because he gave me enough information. I still confuse Kiraidon and Miraidon so I'm not bothering naming them.
- The main purpose of the game is obviously tradition vs modernity. You start out in a trainer school as a member of one of two houses depending on which version you choose. The other house acts essentially as the "evil team" though it's played off as more of a friendly rivalry for most of the story. Gyms seem to be an extension of the "school" idea, but that's most of what I know. I don't know if they can be done in any order or not.
- Each professor acts as their house's "team leader," and one depending on the version you pick ends up essentially "going off the deep end" and needs to be stopped. It was not made clear if it would be your version's professor or the opposite version's. He implied it to be the opposite's, but other info he gave me suggested that your own house is the one messing with time and causing trouble. It could be a "both sides are wrong" deal too.
