When you go to his father's house, you can inspect the golf clubs there. They're all battered up and broken. When you talk to the father, he mentions about how he tried to "set him straight" but it was him who ended up getting beat.
Knowing that information now, and his incredibly famous descriptor, "The big bad boss who beats you down and beats you down and never lets up" really just fucking took a new meaning.
Life for him seemed pretty hard growin' up, and the relationship with his father got so bad that he did something so terrible. It's little details like this that make an antagonistic character so compelling, he's not bad for the sake of being bad, he's like this because of the awful environment he grew up with. It isn't until the player character btfo's him does he begin to wise up, and i think more importantly try to mend the damaged relationship with his father.
The level of depth coupled with his general aesthetic and incredible music just makes him such an incredibly loveable character, even if he is a bad guy.
