It's not just the online, but the whole touch navigation system. Having everything built into the bottom screen, like HGSS but with much more utility. If I wanted to fuck off from the plot and do something chill like trade, EV Train or do other mini-games, I could do all of that in real time without going into some other zone or menu. It was the best control layout for the handhelds.

That's a bad thing. Gen 7 is like the last gen where you can actually share battles with your friends.
I just hope they put the VS recorder back to gen 9. That would definitely make gen 8 the worst gen ever
