haven’t got art to post right now, but I’m a big fan of most of gen 5’s stuff actually. astronomical highs with some stellar designs (aside from the aforementioned- Haxorus line, Hydreigon line, Excadrill, Reuniclus line, Volcarona line, Braviary line, Mienshao line, I can go on but I won’t- this is just off the top of my head), and even its lows usually aren’t too bad in my eyes (the monkey trio’s only offensively bad member is Sear, Watchog and Basculin are surprisingly good in battle (Watchog’s also great for catching), Unfezant is overhated and it really sucks that regional birds don’t do more with their plumage like it and Pidgeot does)
not to mention almost every shiny somehow hits it out of the park, the only proper bad ones in the entire dex are, like, Tranquil and Terrakion (along with the obvious “hardly changes at all” shinies like Basculin/Beartic/Kami trio). don’t know why I value that so highly, I just do.
sorry for the blogpost- just wish it was possible to have a more rational discussion about gen 5’s stuff here without getting swarmed with trolls/contrarians so I jumped at the chance lmao.
