Well, the idea is to play fangames and romhacks because the actual Pokemon games are shit and/or simple, and fans *should* be able to pick up on that and make games that fix those issues.
It doesn't usually work out that way, but whatever.
Also I guess you could play them for more "mature" stories, but fuck you.

Pokemon has a very intricate and tactical battle system, but the vanilla games are so easy that the systems are a waste. No point engaging in 95% of the systems when you can just put 4 attack moves on your overleveled starter and solo the entire game that way. I like romhacks that try to improve the AI and give opponents teams that you actually have to think about and come up with strategies to counter.
