Megas were absolutely AIDS. For one, they were mainly given to mons that were already popular/overpowered. And for the ones that weren't, they should've just given those mons ACTUAL EVOLUTIONS rather than some mega bullshit.

Megas were fundamentally cancer, the one per team limit meant any weaker ones were unusable and the stronger ones were so OP the game was warped around them entirely.

True but mega sableye was such a ridiculous case that it's on a whole different level and easily overcomes the inherent flaws of a mega-evo tank.
Also it was best used as a lead in order to shut down hazard set-ups, so switching in as a non-mega form first wasn't an issue there.

They had too big of stat boost so they were faster, and hit hard enough to OHKO most mons. There is physically no counter play to this other than sacrafice a mon to send out your own Mega without getting hit and hope your Mega countered their Mega. The only way Mega would work is if they only gave it to shitty pokemon like they did with Beedrill. But whenever they gave it to Megagross, Lucario, Gardivoir etc they became busted. Even ones like Sableye became broken because they raised their stats way too high

The most annoying part is that because they went the route of megas, they'll never ever give any of those shafted shitmons proper evolutions instead.
Mawile, Sableye, Banette, Camerupt, etc should've just gotten proper evolutions. But I guess there's still always hope with GF now doing regional forms and evolutions to specific regional forms, as some bullshit roundabout way of giving evos. I don't know why they do it in such a complicated manner, but whatever.

That's more of a problem for the Switch Games, not Gen 7. SM and USUM had SOS Battles, which is honestly even easier than DexNav so long as you set it up properly with a Harvest Trevenant holding a Leppa Berry with the moves Skill Swap and Trick.

Mega evolution was cool in theory but fundimentally unbalenced even if every pokemon got one people would just use the mega evolutions of already strong pokemon like the pseudos(unless they got a broken ability). Dynamax is like megas but worse, its a nightmare, the worst thing that ever happend to pokemon. Z moves were alright still stupid though because no one used em for attacks, just buff like z-conversion and z-splash but atleast it gave relevence to those moves

thats more a fault of poor choice of GF than the concept of Megas

imagine a world where only weaker and rarely used Pokémon got megas. suddently those Pokémon are viable but not required. and assuming you keep strict rules on who could get them then they will never become over centralizing.

this is alleviated further by lifting the +100bst rule, suddently every mon could get a viable mega option as now the weaker ones could benefit more

Mega - cool concept, high potential, but poorly implemented, but easy to fix 8/10.

Z-moves - Cool concept, medium potential, mediocre execution. 8/10

Dynamax - fun concept, low potential, mediocre execution. 6/10

Gigantamax - totally unnecessary, ok potential, Abysmal execution, but easily fixable. 4/10

Gigantamax needs to be something special to make it worth seeking out.

Megas need to lift the +100bst rule, and rebalance, or retire some existing megas to be good again.

All it would take is one OP mega to exist to invalidate all the other ones that are on the level of "takes a weak shitmon and brings it up to par". That's a large part of the fundamental problem with how they work. And again, in those instances where a shitmon could use a mega, there's really no reason not to just give them a proper evolution instead.

Half the problem with this shit is GF's autism about keeping the arbitrary pokedex count artificially low. Same deal with regional forms not increasing the dex count despite being new pokemon in everything but dex number.
