Have you ever used Golisopod? It can't switch into a strong resisted attack if rocks are up for risk of EE activating. The ability is crippling.

Gyarados has 125 attack and similar bulk. Its ability, movepool, and typing is what elevates it to UU. If Gyarados had Emergency Exit as its only ability, it'd be RU as well. Stats don't always determine viability. Just look at Clefable, Nidoking, and Corviknight. Their stats are underwhelming and yet they're more viable.

Who said anything about ability? Read my post again. If rocks are a concern, just use heavy duty boots. Stat-wise there is nothing wrong with Golisopod. Buffing its stats is the wrong way to buff it.

Not him, but Avalugg did have a surge in usage for a time in OU. It wasn't the most conventional choice, but it excelled anyway thanks to its bulk, recovery, rapid spin, and heavy duty boots. It had favorable match ups against Landorus too. Moral of the story is, tiers don't always determine viability.

Lando-T is not some unstoppable centralizing menace and most Pokemon can beat Lando-T without needing to cheese it with Ice STAB.

Viability is simply Smogon's cabal agreeing that Pokemon could be used in a specific situation in an OU battle. If it isn't utterly ouclassed by another mon in that role, it has a niche and some viability.
Example: Avalugg outclasses Bergmite because Avalugg has everything Bergmite does except more stats. The option to use HDB or Leftovers plus the stat boost outweighs any benefit from Eviolite.

Emergency Exit seems to be designed as a way to get a free switch. The issue is that out of every possible result of getting an EE switch there's good instances like getting what is essentially a slow U-turn or a Teleport
The real problem comes with non direct damage forcing you to return instead of only direct damage which can make this guy really fuck itself or an ally over.

Literally just have Emergency exit make it it retreat AFTER its turn. That would differentiate it from Wimp Out and allow it to at least surge as a slow pivot (it would still be a somewhat determinant ability due to being forced to switch but it would at least something the player can stargaze around).

OU is literally "overused". Avalugg is barely ever used because its niche is a very small one.
The viability rankings acknowledge that it's workable, but it's not good enough to be an actual OU mon.

The problem is that Golisopod needs that Choice Band or Life Orb to do good damage.
125 Attack is good, but not good enough when unboosted, and taking a turn to Swords Dance just risks Golisopod getting hit and being taken down.
The stats aren't fundamentally bad. On a Pokemon without Emergency Exit, I'd even call them pretty good. But since the whole gimmick of Golisopod is Emergency Exit, buffing the stats is the way to go.

Milotic isn’t memorable for its design, it’s memorable for being a schoolyard rumor-tier in terms of how you obtain it. Gyarados is a simple level 20 evo and a classic, Milotic’s esoteric nonsense leaves it high and dry by comparison.

You do realize that in ancient times snakes and reptiles were called "dragons", right? Even some sea creatures were labeled as such. The "dragon" Saint Martha killed was likely a crocodile for example. Historically, Gyarados and others like Lapras would be called dragons.

Raihan's a dragon type specialist too and his team is entirely weather-based. Sandaconda is labeled as a dragon since it's a snake. Or Torkoal being a dragon since it's a tortoise. They go by the ancient rules of labeling most lizard-like creatures as dragons.

Lando absolutely does get enough usage in Ubers to rise.
Weavile, Ferrothorn, Lando-T, Slurpuff, Aerodactyl, Blissey, and Scolipede would all be Uber by usage. Excadrill and Shuckle just barely miss out.
Lunala, Pheromosa, Palkia, Lando-I, Urshifu, Magearna, Genesect, Giratina-O, Dialga, Mewtwo, all 3 Kyurems, and many more Uber legendaries would all drop to OU and be immediately banned to OUBL (which is functionally what Uber already is)
