Personally Option A but I don't mind Option B for Unova since all the areas before the post game were still really cool and interesting to explore

Option A. It looks like you have more options for how to progress through the main game. Optional routes as shortcuts like in Option B are useless as soon as you obtain Fly, let alone in the postgame.

Option B looks stupid af, and can be easily fixed by making the orange areas here available when you get at the "top" of it, if you know what I mean

You'd have to include 11 road blocks for B and only 2 for A so I would choose A. But I do like those single post game routes that B has near the beginning, I think those are a cool idea.

And yet the image that's meant to represent Unova in the OP clearly has objectively more content than the other. If Unova is lazy, what does that make an even smaller region?

Option B has 5 extra locations. Doesn't matter how much is postgame or not, more locations = more content.

I'm actually a bigger fan of the interconnectivity and choice offered by Option B, although Option A's compactness and efficiency is still worthy of admiration.

Hypothetically speaking, the extra routes in Option B would just be merged into Option A's campaign routes and/or dungeons, so each one would have similar amounts of 'content' (Option B would probably have more legendaries, though).

I don't care if it has more """content""" if the """content""" is worse. Having a shorter game with more exploration is more valuable than having a longer game where you just walk through hallways and click A the entire time with zero agency. And Unova doesn't even have more content, it has less content than even Kalos does.

It depends on the execution. Galar and Alola are basically built like Option A but ended up being the most painful, linear, slogs of a "story campaign"
Unova is almost exactly like B but there's never a moment in the story where you don't feel like you're in control and the benefit being that all the routes in the postgame had the training wheels off entirely instead of the illusion that's granted by linear Option A.

Not really. Gen 5 was the prime example of linear games done corerctly. Everything is sequential in order to tell a narrative but the player has full agency in exploring.

Yeah, it isn't. Good thing no games in the series do that with the exception of SM/USUM/SWSH.
