There is only one fact that you need to know, OP. XY came out in 2013 and it is now 2022. So actual 9 year olds that grew up with Megas as central to their Pokemon experience are now adults able to post on this board.

There is definitely one dedicated megautist that keeps insisting megas will come back outside of XY remakes. You can tell they're the one shitting on Dynamax because they have the same copy-pasted Discord arguments.

This does apply to some Megas, but only to a small handful, which (apart from fug and maybe salamence and gengar) aren't any worse than box-legendaries. Additionally, there's no reason they can't just nerf the OP megas in the future, like they did with Mega Kangaskhan. Especially if they got rid of the "megas have to increase BST by exactly 100 points" rule. Also, power creep began generations before Megas and continued for generations afterwards. Arceus and Zacian-C both contributed to powercreep more than any of the Megas ever did. Whether or not Gamefreak decides to break their own games is in no way reliant on whether or not Megas continue to exist.

Purely subjective opinion. I personally think most of them are at least passable, and a few even look cooler than they're original forms.

No they don't. There's nothing stopping them from giving new evos to Pokémon with megas, or at least giving alternate evolutions to their pre-evos.

Megas are literally just alternate forms (something we already had by the way, the only thing that makes megas special (gameplay wise) is that you can only use one at a time. Dynamax on the other hand is more like a multi-use z-move that also gives you stat boosts. The two are totally different, and yet people insist on arguing about which one is better.

That's the whole problem. Z-Moves and Dynamax are superior since they give every shitmon an edge, unlike your special snowflake gimmick

When I said that the mechanic itself isn't the problem, I meant that the problem wasn't with the concept or mere existence of Mega Evolution, not that the execution of the mechanic is completely and utterly flawless. Vague wording on my part. If they changed it so that megas don't increase BST by any fixed amount then it would entirely possible to nerf specific overpowered megas, and as bonus, you could buff the ones that failed to make their Pokemon useful.
