Dude, peek in to the Japanese fandom sometime. It's because most Japanese fans are game fans, not anime fans. The anime certainly has it's fans but compared to the games it's fanbase is rather small. As for interactions, the game fandom almost always ships the 2 opposite gendered protagonists together, I think Gen 7/8 are the only time I've not seen it be that common. Also Serena and Calem have had a few teases, not just one, to be fair.
In spirit they are not at all, there are at this point in time almost no similarities between game and anime Serena aside from the name. She is an anime original character, like someone else said it's comparable to Red and Ash. The cucking logic doesn't even work because the game versions are the originals anyway and the anime versions are the spinoff ones, so the "canon" is that they don't know each other and have never interacted.
