The only other option was Kingdra and that was Claire's ace. I don't really mind the variety, the Champion being monotype would be fucking lame as hell.

Because competitive Pokemon runs doubles and those are historically not well liked for bosses. Also, fanfic OU's only good in fanfic itself, in ranked battles and competitive ones they're trash.
