if anyone is going to do it, I expect genius sonority to step up and take the helm again. by some miracle they're still around, but they've pivoted to making puzzle games these days. I was shocked to see they were behind cafe mix. I won't count them out for good, but I wouldn't put money on them pivoting back to making 3D JRPGs again.
and before anyone says burnet was from a spin-off too so there's a precedent for game freak canonizing spinoff content: yes, she was. she debuted in dream radar. an app developed by game freak. she always was their character from one of their own games. wes and rui, shadow pokemon, cipher, snagem, orre, and shadow lugia are not, and never will be.
