Trevor is surprisingly cringe. Dude is a bitchy little arrogant prick that constantly moves goalposts to push on the bloated sense of self importance that he has.
Shauna is surprisingly good, but crippled by her game. If Serena/Calem had just been wrapped up into Shauna, she could have legitimately been one of the best rivals in the series, towing the line between friendly and competitive rival as she actively uses the relationship between you to actually develop as a person who exists for themself, not just to be your measuring stick. As it stands, she's wasted potential.
I don't know why Gamefreak decided they wanted to split the rival into 4 characters, but it was clearly a mistake.
