Gen 7 continued the multiverse storyline and expanded on the non mega timeline.
Gen 6 introduced multiverse fuckery, with XY taking place at the same time as B2W2 and ORAS being its own universe while alluding to RSE being destroyed. Gen 5 is some time after 2/4.
Gen 4/2 is after 1/3.
So what did gen 8 even contribute in terms of plot? Its isolated and they even went as far as nuking the pokedex. Its even worse with BDSP being an exact clone of DP with no connections to anything else.

Gen 1- RBGY, started the series.
Gen 3 FRLG/RSE happened at the same time, for sumplicity's sake, RBGY and FRLG willbe treated the same
Gen 2/4, continued the time of the events, as evidenced by the Lake of Rage news clip in DP. GSC and HGSS take place after RBGY and FRLG.
Gen 5- BW, takes place X amount of years after Gen 4. B2W2 take it two years further into the future.
Gen 6- XY are concurrent with B2W2. ORAS is supposedly in the mega timeline since Zinnia states the RSE timeline will be destroyed due to lack of evolution and the meteor.
Gen 7, SM is in the mega timeline, events show Anabel exists and traveled from RSE into the Mega Timeline.
USUM further brings back the villains from alternate timelines, specifically Archie and Maxie from RSE. There is also the fact Red and Blue exist aged up as well. What did Gen 8 do besides reference an ambigious war and copy XY's laser from the sky history event?

I don't think a Pokemon game needs to contribute to an overarching plot and timeline to be good, this isn't capeshit - and I say this as a Johtofag which is the biggest plot continuation game of em all

The problem is that they didn't give the game a decent standalone plot either. Between gen 2 and gen 7 they sometimes stumble upon a decent plot thread or character arc by accident, and then cross-region and cross-game references are fluff they use to patch over the cracks in their storytelling and give online fans something to talk about. Every now and then a recurring plot thread like Looker crops up, but it's hardly a necessity.

Gen 8 however has none of the above - the main plot all happens off-screen to other characters, none of the main characters have any real personality or development to them at all, the region is a massive nothingburger and they seemingly go out of their way to give it as few references to other games, regions or a point in the timeline. Any one of these things by themselves would be a flaw, but combined they make a soulless disaster.

There is no "non-mega" timeline. That was the entire point of the Delta Episode.

Black and White already take place in parallel universes

That's just a general timeline and it has nothing to do with multiverse theory.

The Delta Episode was literally about SAVING the RSE universe since the space center wanted to warp the meteor to it and Zinnia destroyed the remote to do it like a tard since the universe hasn't discovered infinity energy yet.

Nothing. At best you get the implication that the Darkest Day occurred around the time of the war in Kalos and that Melmetal was also last seen during the same time.

XY references the events of Plasma in BW but not BW2 since they happen at the same time.
