Even if we were only talking about the anime, what you're saying shouldn't change anything and it's also not true, at the very minimum they shipteased Misty and Dawn too. Obviously they didn't go as far as Serena did but in the end they're all one sided anyway so they're the same as each other.
I don't know, I think there's 1 or 2 people here that really ruin these threads. I am not a fan of Dawn but I've entered their general a few times and it kinda depresses me how much more active and fun it is, how they make OC content etc compared to here which regularly has infighting.
