I forgot that his Purrloin was stolen 5 years ago before the story.
If it happened immediately before the events of the story or even on-screen, I think he'd be more justified because there's still time to save it.
But after 5 fucking years, I think any sane person would give up hope.

Yeah, the point was that he needed to chill out. Hugh's little sister isn't nearly as concerned as he is. It's not pure selflessness that drives him, he took the loss of the cat very personally and wanted to make up for it by larping as an avenger, picking fights with Neo-Plasma grunts who could have ganged up on him and beat his ass if you weren't around. He also refused to believe that the ex-Plasma grunts could change. He learns his lesson to stop being stuck in the past and accept the flow of time, that people and Pokemon can change. Would have been more powerful if he never found his cat rather than lucking out on a grunt using the exact shitmon but whatever.
