I wish Fossil Fighters was still kicking around. Despite its flaws, it's probably the best alternative I've had to Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness since those games came out. The first game had a superior version of triple battles and the second a superior version of rotation battles, imho.

Don't know if I even agree with that. The party members gave it all of the negatives of something like Miitopia (and, of course, none of the positives) while also being even easier to cheese than the previous games (in the first game all you ever needed was Spinax, S-Raptor, Venator, Megalo and Elasmo, but in Frontier all you needed to invest in was the protag dino and one substitute once you lose the protag dino).

The worst part was probably the fossils. Them no longer being random really killed the vibe of the game, but the fact that the game seems to prefer you just hammering away at the think carelessly instead of carefully using the drill when necessary just took all the fun out of an already tedious part of the game.

Am I not allowed a place to talk about why I think these games had better implementation of triple/rotation battles than the mainline games without it sinking through the /v/ shitposts?

Yeah, that's a good take. What I mean by okay is that it's complete and playable without any issues, but it doesn't do anything particularly well compared to the other games. There are worse monster collecting games for sure, but that isn't a high hurdle to clear.
I'm used to the party member system because of games like Persona, but the stance system could have used some polish. Customizing the bone buggy was kinda cool but centering the game around using it to travel wasn't the best idea, and so on. There was potential in the devs' ideas but they fell short on most of them.

Love the first two, but the third is pretty damn boring. (At least Frontier's soundtrack is nice, I guess.)
