The new event in Masters EX explains this was a rebellious phase that a lot of Pokemon go through when they evolve.
Presumably it's the same as when teenagers instinctually rebel against their parents despite the parents having fed, clothed and housed them for over a decade.

Difference is that rebellious teenagers usually don't have a tragic backstory and repeatedly have their life saved from literal life-threatening danger by their adoptive caretaker who has never been anything but absolutely selfless and kind towards them. Under those circumstances the teenager usually forms a strong attachment and becomes clingy as fuck and seeks their savior's approval. Charizard's an ungrateful cunt.

You don't have kids, do you? Because that's exactly what happens. From insignificant shit like stopping them from stepping out in a road or hitting their head on something real hard to lifting cars off of them or getting them the proper medical help they need after an accident. They'll even continue to do this during the rebellious phase and after. That's what parents and caretakers do. And in fact, it's more likely for someone to play up with an adoptive caretaker/someone they've yet to see as a true authority than it is to do so with their birth parents.
Charizard was indeed ungrateful before Orange Islands, but it's pretty understandable all things considered.

That's how normal kids turn out, not ones who have a sentimental and lifesaving bond with an adoptive guardian. I've more than enough exposure to that demographic to know the difference, only the ungrateful ones turn out a rebellious phase as bad as Charizard's.

Pigeot was a jobber and if Ash actually wants to win he'll leave that fucker and never go back for it.
Pikachu jobbing to Snivy sucked but its so heavily cherry picked an instance of jobbing and outdated by this point it isn't even funny. Nowadays typically only legendaries or aces of the most notorious trainers can notch a win off of Pika.
Shits like Dragon Ball fans who only ever watched Z and only watched it in the 90s and think the dubisms and such are actually Canon or that Goku is some superman like saviour.

The Snivy loss is cherry picked but don't act like there's not a good chunk of other equally stupid shit that downplays how strong Pikachu's supposed to be. My go-to example is how Pikachu was throwing Thunderbolts and Thunder at a fucking wild Taillow in a river and couldn't knock it out or even make it back down so Ash had to intervene and catch the fucker just to end the battle.
