>>50898385 said is spot on, it made no sense the way he wasted Gyarados on Gourgeist the single resist. Diantha was relieved Gourgeist was protected from Aqua Tail by Reflect despite the resist, so it must have been strong. He also threw Dragonite's health away on Aurorus letting it take repeat SE attacks. Gyarados could've easily decimated Aurorus and Gardevoir since it was shown to last long enough against Leon's Charizard. Dragonite could've stayed in the back for cleanup with Hydreigon dealing with Gourgeist right away instead of the bizarre delay he did. He's champion level and a previous #2 World placement, these decisions were awful and feel like they came from a random trainer. The hail chip 'strategy' was also incredibly stupid.
I get the writers probably didn't want a repeat Leon Lance fight to give someone else a chance, but the choreography could've gone much better. For instance, have Lance play super aggro with all his mons while Diantha sets up to play center boss on Gardevoir. It winds up being Lance has all 3 mons left standing while Aurorus and Gourgeist go down just working on setup.
Aurorus sets screens. Lance decides to Dragon Dance to counter her strategy. Then her Gourgeist reveals a sacrificial Trick Room and that's where the turnaround is. Gardevoir comes out and sets up a Calm Mind and reverse sweeps. Have Lance trying to stall out THAT, the Trick Room, via dodging and Dynamax, to try and regain his advantage but ultimately not succeeding to outlast. The BS the writers decided on with the Hail chip stall was so immensely stupid for a high level battle and didn't make sense.
