with an emulator u sadly dont have the feeling of the link cable or conexclub
but if u still wanna try it there are some ways u have to research which emulator has multiplayer functions and if it is possible to to it also if a emulator can connect to an other emulator and in some cases u need another program or a plugin to do that shit and it can be buggy af look up who to transfer from dolphin to a gba emulator there are some videos out there
but on the 3ds if u have homebrew u can use pksm and go from gen 3 to gen 7 and shit is legit when u only copy and paste or cut and paste (transfer) the pkmn from one safefile to another
and it is not cheating it is just transfering without graphics
