What are some good underrated Pokémon you like to use in gen two? Im going to start a playthrough and want some ideas. I always end up being lazy and get my usual basic 6

try Furret, Ursaring or Bellossom
Steelix is based too but a massive pain to get legit in Gen 2 (of course you can always just PKHeX in the evo once you have an Onix or play something like Patched Crystal)

of course Steel type is useful, Magnemite line in particular only needs to watch out for Fire, Fighting and Ground moves which are pretty rare. Most enemy mons use primarily Normal moves. Not that resistances really matter in-game since you basically just want to move first and OHKO everything

also OP the final evos aren't Gen 2 mons but you can always try and use something from the Odd Egg like Tyrogue or Elekid if you're playing Crystal

- Meganium/Jumpluff
- Quagsire
- Magneton (Yes, it's gen 1, but steel type)
- Furret (Elemental punches baby)

I thought about it but evolving him is a bitch from what I remember. I think I'm going to replace skarmory with Xatu and add mangeton as my 6th

Dunsparce is a monster and I love it, Rage does numbers in early game and stab helps a lot lol. Also seen lots of people sleeping on Gligar and Teddiursa, which makes sense since they’re late game, but Teddiursa is pre-gym 1 in Crystal and really fun as long as you can fucking catch it

Girafarig is cool. Psychic/Normal mixed attacking is useful and learns Baton Pass + Agility just by level up. Fragile but has decent attacking stats.

Scizor gen 1 is not even that good. Best stab move it learns is fucking metal claw. Good defenses but I usually don't even bother evolving scyther

Sudowoodo is really good for in game.
If you’re playing crystal…
You get Phanpy early but it gets no ground moves. You have to Tm it earthquake. Hell you have to tm it mudslap to get something in the meantime.
Suggest using one of Teddiursa or Snubble since you get them earlier/easier. Teddiursa is better when evolved but evolves later than snubble and doesn’t get great moves to hold you over. Snubble/Granbull is a slightly worse Ursaring but you get it earlier and at least get bite.
When you get Eevee breed one with a ditto and evolve it before level 15 or whatever so you get espeon with confusion.
Sucks megahorn isn’t physical but honestly you can’t do better than Heracross.
If you were thinking of Magnemite if you wanna hold out longer consider Lanturn, it would be decently good if you could get it earlier than you do.

Honestly without Technician and access to better bug and steel moves it’s not worth it to get scizor unless you really want a steel type. In HGSS actually it’s completely unnecessary if you get technician scyther

Bug moves are physical dude.

The actual problem is Heracross doesn't get it until above level 50

I'm currently doing a statmaxxing run in Crystal where I try and use the highest BST mons available at any given point in the game without over leveling. Mostly by using the stones gifted from trainers.

Right now I've got

- Arcanine
- Exeggutor
- Alakazam

All below level 20 before Whitney. At lv 20 I can add Gyarados.

I'm also aiming to catch a Slowpoke with a kings rock on it for early slowking but this is a real grind

Best move is HP Bug, right? Or Silver Wind if you're not cheating. Honestly with big being physical, metal claw, swords dance and a coverage move like Slash or Strength
I just checked and silver wind doesn't exist in gen 2 so yeah, not a lot of great moves

Gen 1-2 learnsets were full of normal moves, anything that resists them is automatically good. The geodude line was one of the best picks you could get early game for that very reason.

Steel is pretty bad offensively, honestly you're better off just forgetting about a steel stab and waiting a bit for Scyther to learn Wing Attack and then evolving it.
Steel's strength comes from resisting half the types in the game, bug/steel especially has to be one of the top 10 combos you could get imo.

How can I get trade evos when not playing on a PC emulator, but on a gameboy cartridge? Do I reallt still need 2 gameboys and 2 games?

Theres got to be some modern way to cheat the trade mons on. I just want to be able to use some of my favs like gengar or scizor on a crystal playthrough...any way to use my phone or something to get them?
