Now that the dust has settled, what did you think of it?

For me it's a top 5, maybe top 3, Pokémon game and the ceiling is stupidly high if they actually take its formula and improve on it with sequels.

I agree fondly
Replayed it some more this week (completing all side quests)
Essentially my opinion of it is summed up by "It's good but there's some things it does like crap"
Like, inventory space, multiplayer, and whatever the fuck the battle system was

I didn't expect it to be good, so I was positively surprised when it was pretty decent. It's still a rushed modern Pokemon game made by gamefreak, but if you ignore that this is a full price game of a franchise that could theoretically have an enormous budget it's pretty enjoyable.

Not the biggest fan of the battle system and some parts of the story, but I really enjoyed the presentation of it all. Exploring an ancient world was fun, and I remember seeing the temple roof blowing off and immediately thinking "Oh shit, Spear Pillar".
I vividly remember going to the Icelands and going on catching sprees and for the first time ever, actually trying to hunt for shinies.
The boss fights were pretty enjoyable, with my favorite being the Avalugg fight. I really liked Avalugg but didn't expect him to get anything after Gen 6, so I was very pleasantly surprised when Avalugg was revealed to be the Icelands noble.
I really like how they're experimenting with the ultra wormholes with space-time distortions and Ingo.
A PLA-style game with something like the Kalos or Galar dex would honestly be a dream, especially if they give love to less appreciated pokemon like how they did with Avalugg, Stantler, Ursaluna and Qwilfish.

It's the first time I ever caught them all and enjoyed it.
Of course, I do always catch them all, in accordance with rule 5, but I usually do it begrudgingly.
In PLA, I would've done it even if it wasn't a bannable offense.

First pokemon game in 10 years that actually deserves a decent score like 8/10, but for the lack of content and the story, areas, pokemon and tasks getting really repetitive midway through the game, not a single point more.
I had fun but there was much more potential for this type of game and I can only hope they expand on it, but knowing Game Freak we're just gonna get soft reboots and remakes for the next 10 years.

I will say that PLA was the most fun I have had playing a Pokémon game since my childhood. Being able to roam around Hisui with the ride pokemon was a blast, the new batch of Pokémon in the game are all generally really good, and being able to explore the origins of one of my favorite regions is cool as fuck.
The main problem for PLA in my opinion is replay value. I haven’t really gone to replay it since completing the dex and defeating the final Arceus boss battle. There just isn’t enough to do in the postgame and shiny hunting gets repetitive.
I would put it in my A tier of Pokémon games.

4/10. completing the pokedex is a bigger slog than ever with less than 300 pokemon, the maps are boring with nothing interesting to discover, the new pokemon introduced is the worst batch of pokemon designs ever made, and the story is shit as always. strong style and agile style are neat, but need more work. catching was fun, but it made battling wild pokemon feel like a hassle. if i couldn't catch the pokemon i was aiming for without battling it i would just fuck off and try again later.
