No, just mons that look like other mons but are completely different in origin. A mole will never evolve into an eel, so it can't be the same Pokémon. Unova had entirely new designs based on the same origins as a lot of Kanto Pokémon. So while you get Tympole in Gen 5 as a counterpart to Poliwag (a different Pokémon based on the same thing), in Gen 9 you might get a Pokémon very similar to Poliwag that won't be a tadpole at all.

Convergent evolution and mimicry, but mostly just memes, according to Khu.

Yeah, sounds right. Convergent evolution is when two unrelated things fill the same niche. Kanto and Unova species seem taxonomically related for the most part. There’s big frogs, fighting type little guys, dragons, metallic golem things… I think the best example to me is how Munna and Drowsee are different types of Tapir. I’m sure there’s a couple of Unovan forms I’m not thinking of that can be considered convergent to their Kanto counterparts, if the species is far enough away. Like if they had a bird fill in the role of ‘fighting type man’

The thing is that they don't really fill the same niche. By the sounds of it, the only similarity is the aesthetics. The eels are in water, not underground and a sea dwelling Kantomon lookalike is a land dweller, meaning it would fill a completely different niche. I don't know if we have such examples in biology.

Friendly reminder that Khu majorly fucked up with the convergent Mons. He’s a retard who thought a pink, Water-type garden eel had to be a Diglett variant and made up “Regional Fakes” to cover his ass.

We don’t even know if these convergent evolutions will be properly highlighted in-game or if they’ll just be along the lines of Bouffalant/Tauros, Alomomola/Luvdisc, Pachirisu/Emolga etc. The similarities exist to us, but in universe it might not even be mentioned or just a quick line to add lore (and possibly even retcon past Pokémon to being convergent evolutions)

No. He was teasing RF's back a few weeks ago. And when someone commented regional forms, Khu said, "why do you think RF means that?" People then came up with shit like "reflection forms" and stuff, then Khu said it's the "F" we should be worried about, hinting at the "R" still being regionals. If you look at his calendar, you'll see that the themes for the months have "RF + RF". During the month, he hinted at Wooper and Tauros variants and the Diglett mimics.

He just used "fake" because it starts with an "F" and he could do the whole "it's not that" bait and switch. It is also a fairly apt description.

The Khu team works in localization. They have seen all the new mons, know the story, had to come up with Chinese names for the new mons. The person hinting at the RF's might as well have given all of them their Chinese names. THere is not fuck ups here.

What don't you understand about the Khu team being part of the localization team for China? They can see that the Diglett eel has a new dex number and name. Khu didn't think it was different, he hinted at Rfakes before that.

Right. In that case, it probably wouldn't be convergent Evo. I'm drawing a blank on what it would be called biologically. I don't think there's a term to unite a burrowing terrestrial creature, and a sea animal that digs in sand.

Best example of C. Evo is this. A fish, reptile, mammal and bird all developed similar traits and shapes because it's naturally optimized. Fins, streamlining, countershading, etc.

No one says a dolphin is a shark, and they just have similar looks. What would make more sense is an existing mon taking the role of the normal diglett, like more of a mimic.

I am with you, but wouldn't mimicry mean that the two mons share an environment, and it's beneficial for the eel to look like the mole?

A) Dilgett is not a predator, I assume an eel would be. What is about Diglett's apperance that would serve a predator well?

B) If the eel is not a predator, then why would it choose to look like a Diglett? Is Diglett inherently threatening aesthetically? Water mons have never seen one, so if it's intimidation, then it must be instinctual. And I just don't see that.

C) Or is that the Diglett body shape is the most effective shape to take living underwater or under the sea bed.

I have to go with C.

Agreed, yup. I'm not saying it's fitting, just putting some stuff about Convergent evo here for people to read. A diglett adapting to the new niche would just be a regional form.

I think another good reference for convergent forms would be Arvalis art. In making Pokemon that are biologically feasible, he comes up for a substitute for something like floating electric balls. Like a bunch of crabs who fold up, or pangolins that use static.

No chance, they'd have to redesign the whole region to work with the open world gameplay. The region wasn't meant to be explored that way, it's all corridors and the proportions are wrong.

The DLC will probably be smaller zones.

Carcinization is over hyped as far as convergence goes. While the crab like morphology evolving five separate times is impressive, two of those times occurred in Brachyura, and the other three occurred in the sister clade Anomura. So it’s not like wildly different animals convergently evolved into crabs.

Game Freak may once more utilize a dynamic similar to that of Solgaleo & Lunala, as well as Zacian & Zamazenta. Koraidon and Miraidon form a duo (Cosmog's Line, Hero Duo) against an antagonistic/hostile Legendary (Necrozma, Eternatus), until the Protagonist gets involved, who then settles the feud by befriending all Pokemon involved.
SV DLC would likely add more Legendaries that loosely fit into the theme established by the main Legendary duo of the games. SwSh DLC featured a warrior's "armour" (Urshifu, might be a bit of a reach, but for the time being I digress), a king (Calyrex), and the king's steeds (Glastrier & Spectrier), which would match well with the two previously introduced heroes/knights (Zacian & Zamazenta).
