Ice is the worst defensive type, but arguably the best offensive one.
Nothing other than Shedinja is immune to it, and it's super effective against more mons than any other type (303).

So it's basically between Non-Solid Rock Rhyperior (115 - 55) and non-Eviolite Rhydon (105 - 45) but it's both defenses instead of just the Special side.
It's not great, but it's not Pheromosa or Weavile

Why is Scizor's Bullet Punch specifically a drawback? Why not Shadow Sneak and Sucker Punch, both much more common in ubers where Deoxys-A resides?

Almost no type can avoid a SE hit from ALL priority moves. I think just Electric? Everything else is weak to one or more of them.

Compared to vanilla Darmanitan the only real differences are Ice typing instead of fire, access to Ice STAB (while keeping fire moves) and a slightly stronger ability with a different drawback.

Darmanitan is UU, this thing is ubers.
I don't think if fire Darmanitan had Gorilla Tactics and ice moves it would be banned to ubers, so surely ice typing must contribute positively way more than negatively.

Gorilla Tactics alone wouldn't cut it because it still wouldn't have access to ice moves, so it would be unable to force out all the things Darmanitan-G does with its ice STAB.

You may consider unfair that Darmanitan-G keeps the fire moves but its Zen mode form explains why it does.

But honestly I don't care. Ice types have been plagued by suboptimal stats and movepools more than the type itself, having an optimized ice mon for once is a nice change.

Which is why STAB benefits Icicle Crash more than Flare Blitz.

Flare Blitz is so strong that with or without STAB its targets still die, Darm-G has zero issues with the likes of Ferrothorn thanks to that.

Now, STAB-boosted Icicle Crash opens the doors to destroying things fire Darmanitan could only dream of, such as Dragonite, Lando-T and Chomp.

We have already seen with Weavile, Kyurem and Kyurem-B what happens when you give them an actually powerful, or even just decently powerful ice move backed up by STAB.

Ice isn't a bad type. It's a bad defensive type.
The problem is that most ice types are built to be defensive, and as such, suck.
Also, Calyrex and 2/3 of the Kyurems are kinda cheating, considering they're restricted legendaries with crazy high BST's. The fact that Kyurem-B was ever in OU with a BST of 700 is telling.

If they did, it'd be a Belly Drum or Sub Salac set meant to capitalize on the opponent switching in fear of GT Garm.
In other words, you're not switching out Zen Garm, let alone switching it back in. As soon as it's in Zen Mode, it's at +6 attack, and probably at 1/4 HP, +1 speed and hopefully behind a sub. At that point, preserving it isn't a factor. Just do as much damage as possible.
Also, it only changes to Zen Mode below 1/2 HP. Switching into SR is instant death even if you did do that for some reason.

Icicle Spear without Technician/Skill Link is a truly shitty move but it still was a huge factor (main one was DD) in getting Kyu-B banned.

Ho-oh has like 130 Atk while Kyurem-B has 170 Atk. It’s also not like Kyurem-B didn’t have physical moves either. It got Outrage, Fusion Bolt, Iron Head, and Subzero Slammer.
It’s SpA wasn’t bad either. It was 120 SpA, with moves like Ice Beam and Earthpower.
This fact seems to just fly by people when talking about Kyurem-B being OU and even UUBL at one point. It took Icicle Spear, Heavy-Duty Boots, and Dragon Dance for Kyurem-B to become Ubers and then Freeze-Dry for regular Kyurem to become Ubers too.
Then all 3 Kyurem forms (even White) are all D rank in Ubers. Reshiram is C rank and Zekrom is A rank.
Really highlights how bad Ice really is. Zekrom with less Atk, HP, and Spe, no Blizzbolt combo physical, and is Electric, is miles better than Kyurem-B.

Kyogre also has something most Ubers have that Kyurem and other Ice types like. Defensive utility and the ability to switch in.
Kyogre has 100/90/140 bulk, water typing, and even sets Rain. It has a far easier time switching in than Kyurem ever did. So Kyogre can run Choice Band effectively as it can actually switch in on plenty of Pokemon.
Also here is how much Liquidation can do from Kyogre

Ice has nothing on Ghost. Ice is resisted by two of the best types in the game and fire which is another good type. Ghost meanwhile is only resisted by dark and the only type immune to it is normal. Normal types are complete ass so that pretty much simplifies it as blissey. So you've basically got a type where only dark types and even then most are frail and Blissey resist Ghost and both of them are absolutely violated by the fighting type. If marshadow was in OU it would absolutely destroy the tier.

Ice is SE on Flying, and should resist it too.
Grass would also make sense to be resisted, well even more sense, but Grass already sucks offensively. So idk about it.

Ice resisting Electric and Poison makes sense.
Electricity has a harder time going through Ice as Ice is just Solid Water.
And like what >>50972936 said, though I originally was thinking about how Ice is the only “non-flesh” type (Steel, Ground, Rock, Ghost, and Ice) to be neutral to Poison, as well as how you can store Poisons inside Ice Cubes.
