The problem was that it was slower than kanga on the turn it mega evolved since they didn't implement dynamix speed changes until S/M USUM.
But it was still pretty much useless in VGC mostly due to intimidate spam and fairies / megamence being omnipresent and offering much more both defensively and offensively

Mega Gallade was much better in singles and especially in the smogon formats (if you take out the blatantly broken megas), where it had a relevant niche and was one of the better offensive partners for tapu lele.

Ofc after usum gallade was left in the dust with no compensation for losing his mega forever. Hopefully SV changes that

Volcarona and 2 pseudos getting ancient/future counterparts make me wonder what the fuck their BST is going to be. When we first heard about the concept I was thinking 570ish, maybe even lower, like the UBs. But now I'm thinking it pretty much has to be 600+ because of those 3...but everything that has a BST greater than 600 is always either Restricted or has some kind of downside (Truant, Schooling, etc.). Imagine if they do have some shitty ability, perhaps something like a modified Slow Start to reference them being "out of phase" with time (Ancient Pokemon start out strong but get weaker the more turns they're out, and for Future Pokemon it's the reverse). Maybe they'll be all over the place. ~540 for the likes of Jigglypuff, ~580 for Gallade, ~600 for Volcarona, and so on.

Also what can they even do with an ancient Volcarona? I can't see it as anything but Fire and being a strong Bug-type is part of its whole appeal. I suppose there's no reason to assume all of them change type. In fact AFAIK, only Jigglypuff and a future Unova Bug are confirmed to have a different typing from their modern counterpart.

I feel like if you are going to hire Toby to compose a main overworld theme, you're doing so with the idea of having that motif show up a lot, so if nothing else we'll probably hear all sorts of variations of it across the map. My guess would be Accelgor since it never really made much sense for them to be Bug-type in the first place. Perhaps Karrablast goes extinct in the future, so humans have devised an artificial way to evolve Shelmet that lets it keep its shell? So it looks and moves like a futuristic Escavalier, but it's Accelgor inside the armor.

I think people need to remember that we can't take everything super literally because it's being translated through multiple filters. So him saying that is the opposite of what it is doesn't necessarily mean the two types are exactly opposite of the original. It could just mean that it's swapping out one of its types for something else. I think something like normal/dark, dark/fairy, ghost/fairy or normal / poison all make a ton of sense too. We also haven't seen the full design, just the face. Who knows what other elements are there

I assume it means the balloon aspects of Jigglypuff came from its ancestral relation to Drifloon. Not sure what it shares with Noibat though other than a focus on sound-based moves.

I do like the idea that Clefairy and Jigglypuff being so similar ends up not being because they are related. It's something they've never really directly addressed before with those lines.

Vampires and their association with bats. Also yeah the sound aspects of both Jigglypuff and the Noibat line. Assuming it is a vampire theme they're going for with Ancient Jigglypuff. Kinda hard to tell with just 1 close up of its face.

I decided to go look at the entries for the Pokemon we are being told have these ancient/future forms. I'm still personally unclear on whether Amoongus and Jigglypuff are fakes or these new time-based forms, but I'm still going to include them. Here's what I found that's noteworthy

>Jigglypuff has an entry in USUM that mentions in other regions they are known for shouting rather than singing
>Volcarona has entries discussing it being viewed as a sun god in ancient times
>Salamence line has well known lore about it suddenly mutating to grow wings because it wanted them so bad. You can easily build off of that for a future form
>Ttar is based on Kaiju in general so you can go anywhere with that. But the Pokedex entries for the middle stage mentioned it having the ability to propel itself by spewing out compressed gas, which I never knew. That's just weird but also makes it sound like Gamera...
>Delibird apparently likes to help people and can give out bugs as well as other types of food which I didn't know. Not sure what has to do with the future form...

Not much else to be honest. I did see stuff for others when I was looking into regional forms and fakes. Like Diglett has lore about it hating sunlight because it has thin skin, which I never knew. And Pawniards sometimes double cross Bisharps to take their place, which could be a cool way to inspire a new evolution.

Makes sense. The lesson being that if you change the past then the future Pokemon won't exist anymore, so anyone from an alternate time must return even if they never get to see their friends again.

They could block you from trading your starter like they did in LGPE. Or the Pokemon from the past of future isn't your starter but one of the others you interact with during the story.

I don't think that would happen. The mainline pokemon games have been consistent with time travel not actually changing history but rather causing the history that always happened. A stable time loop sort of thing.

The Celebi event all those years ago where it takes you back in time to fight Giovanni? It turns out this is the reason Giovanni didn't answer TR's radio calls back in gen 2.

Legends Arceus? Spear Pillar looks the way it does because of what your protagonist from the future did after being sent to the past.

i think that the rumoured future Gallade would be a dark-fighting type that's theme would revolve around 'Justice', and would follow the idea that in the future, chivalry is dead.
This leads into my theory in which 'Gallade the knight' becomes 'Gallade the vigilante', which means he becomes a masked crime fighter, taking inspiration from 'Zorro' and 'Batman'.
