>>50979030>>50979043We were told to expect 120-140, with there “not being much” convergent ‘Mons and 8-9 each of the past and future forms.
Let’s doompost and say like 12 Convergents and then 9 for both form types. That’s 12 + 9 + 9 = 30. There’s also 6 legendaries, so let’s remove them too since they’re not standard use. 36. There’s also 6 cross-gens if you want to remove them, but at that point you’re just getting pedantic. But if we’re doomposting, we’ll make them count.
42 designs connected to old ‘Mons.
120-42 = 78 Totally New Designs
130-42= 88 TNDs
140-42 = 98 TNDs
For comparison, let’s look at the other 3D Gens base pairs. We are ignoring DLCs and new games because we can’t compare SV to them. This is ignoring forms of old Pokémon, legendaries/UBs, and cross-gens, since we want “totally new designs” that you can use throughout the game. This might be getting nitpicky, but this is /vp/.
Kalos - 66 TNDs (3 Legends, 3 Mythics, 28* Megas)
Alola - 62 TNDs (9 Legends, 2 Mythics, 7 UBs, 18 Alolan Forms, 2 Zygarde forms)
Galar - 65 TNDs (3 Legends**, 13 Regional Forms, 6 Regional Evolutions, 25 Gigantamax Pokémon***)
*Mega Latis were in XY, but unobtainable. Counted them because they were still in the data and designed in time for release.
**Zarude’s data was added in an update, so 0 mythicals.
***I’m counting Gmax as Flappletun as one Gmax, it’s the same design.
With a range of 78-98 TNDs, that’s anywhere from 12 to 32 more than XY. And let’s look if we add all them numbers back up
Kalos - 100 New Designs
Alola - 100 NDs
Galar - 112 NDs
SV - 120-140 NDs
And for funsies, let’s look at the designs I didn’t count for TNDs - basically Legendary-like Pokémon and regional or gimmick forms
Kalos - 34/100 (34%)
Alola - 38/100 (38%)
Galar - 47/112 (41.9%), 41/112 (36.6%) if we allow regional evolutions
SV - Between 48/120 (40%) to 48/140 (34.2%), or 42/120 (35%) 42/140 (30%) (cross-gens)
