"Pro" anything. Journalists don't like it because the games are jam-packed with too much content. NPCs don't like it because it's the most open game to date and have a breakdown when someone explains that gym order in the first two gens are abstract. Genwunners don't like it because their headcanon dictates that Togepi, Ho-oh, and Marill are part of the original Kanto lineup therefore the other Johto Pokemon are just Digimon knockoffs. Zoomers don't like it because GameFreak doesn't shill it. Trolls on /vp/ don't like it because its games are unanimously good.
The only shitters that actually have merit in hating it are competitivefags since Gen 2 meta is actually cancer-- Even still, it's disingenuous to imply they were even around the scene when it came out or that Snorlax chess was a solved game back in 2000 and again none of it matters because the raiders will pull from all of the above in their efforts to dunk the heads of any game prior to SM underwater trying to make the nu-gens look better.

Gen 2 is the only balanced gen in the whole franchise

Gen 1 Psychic types were hilariously broken
Gen 2 balanced it out with Dark and Steel types, and made decent Bug and Ghost to counter them.
Gen 3 introduced Kyogre, the most broken Pokémon up until now
Gen 4 introduced Arceus
Then we had shit like Mega Rayquaza which ruined the series for good.

It is two groups. Shills and zoomers. Shills hate gen 2 because gen 2 (alongside it's remake) are seen as the best overall games in the series and they can't have that Pokemon shitting out new gens every 3 years. Zoomers hate gen 2 (and gen 1) because they have more mainstream popularity then gen 5. All and all, it just autism.
