It is if you don't use the exp. Share or refresh or ev train your mons beforehand. I used amie and exp share last time I played and I was so overleveled I actually hit the very generous level cap for traded mons at least twice. But yea if you play pure old school style, hell even turn it to set mode and no in battle bag items and fuck yea its hard.
