Idk what game you're playing cuz it's not colosseum. Enemies don't have formula breaking stats, and the AI is actually fairly strong but predictable. If it was weak AI you wouldn't run into Protect+EQ combos.

The level curve for Colosseum is ridiculous and you're given basically zero good actual places to grind.

Show me the AI switching on super effective attacks, devising long term strategies, predicting what the player does, etc. and maybe we'll talk about it being good.

What are you even arguing for or against? Name a single mainline Pokémon game that does any of what you listed here, nobody is claiming that Colosseum is some groundbreaking masterwork that forever revolutionized video games, strats like Justy’s sand team Ein’s rain team and Evice’s bullshit are just fun to fight against because it’s not something you see very often in the main games

If your only idea of adding difficulty is to just bloat levels, why the fuck even bother? It's not any harder, it just becomes more tedious. This isn't really a difficult line of argumentation to follow.

Pokemon as a franchise is in a trap of shittiness. Developers themselves assume that making games shittier makes them more popular, so imitators inherit that mindset too.
Genius Sonority are ex-Sony guys who got handed Pokemon and told to make Pokemon. They were not fans, they were just doing a job on a franchise they had no connection to, and by virtue of their ignorance of mainline principles it ended up being actually good.
