pla had pretty samey customization but at least your player could tumble about and was probably done to avoid pantsu shots
since sv won't have pla mechanics like that though i find it hard to excuse the lack of player customizaton
gamefreak and their shills will probably go "please understand new art direction means making new models and textured for humans is hard"

You know, if they took liberties, it would completely possible for Gamefreak to make school uniforms look cool and stylish. And if the characters were highschool or even middle school aged, that also would have helped. But the school uniforms we’ve seen so far look fucking terrible, so I have little hope. Baggy trousers shouldn't be to far off, and school jumpers exist so there's stuff you can do with that.
I guess it comes down to how much you can do with it. Assuming the leak is real and we only get school related clothing. Or it was just an alpha with little to no real customisation.

Might be why the leaker mentioned how much accessorizing you can do, since you're in the same shoes as kids that have to make the best of the ugly uniforms they have to wear. The concept is a bit novel to me since I never had to wear a uniform for school, but knew kids that did. Uniforms where I lived weren't formal, only khaki pants and some color of plain polo shirt. The girls could wear skirts though.

most optimistic reason i could thing of is that there is some GO gym like PVP element and players being identifiable by team at a glance would be important for that,
sounds like a stretch to me though it probably has more to do with the free camera and legend riding animations(this is the reason you have to change outfit when you ride pokemon or your bike in sumo onwards).

And gen 2. Well expect for Crystal. But I don't know the sales numbers but I think most of Gen 2 sales were Gold and Silver rather than Crystal. So most had to be Ethan for Gen 2.
