>>51055445If that was the case, then characters like Misty would have even less. In the case of Kris, she only ever appeared in Crystal, a third game and the lowest-selling one at that. She wasn't in the original flagship games of Gen II, Gold and Silver. She has no appearances as an NPC, so you're only ever going to see her as an option at the beginning of the game if you don't pick her. She has little presence, and the closest thing to personality already applies to the male protagonist, so you can't just rely on story elements like defeating Red which he earned first.
Leaf, Lyra, and Elaine are similar cases where they're not from the flagship games of their Gens but rather remakes. Leaf has a basis in Gen I artwork that would be repurposed again for LGPE, and Lyra at least appears as an NPC in the story of HGSS, but Elaine has nothing. You can't really compare them to the likes of May, Dawn, or Serena who all appear as major characters in the anime, appear as NPCs in their games if not chosen, and are flagship girls of their Gens. Hilda and Rosa may not appear in the anime, but they still have more going for them than Kris, Lyra, and Elaine.
