>>51064420They pretty much defined the roles for the first 8 years. 90% of them are better portrayals than anything that succeeded them, as far as main characters go 4Kids had the right voices for OS-AG. Side characters were hit or miss, but they still made the Series popular in the West- deserve to be remembered for that well, if nothing else.
>>51064313Doesn't change Bill Rogers is still sadly miscast as Brock, though IMO, easily the worst of his 4 dub VAs (the only two good at voicing him were Eric Stuart and Johnny Yong Bosch, though, IMO but Stuart edges out since it's his most distinct performance in his career). Tom Bauer was better than Bill Rogers at Brock, but worse than the other two imo in Masters.
To be fair, Rogers himself is a talented actor, but just sounds way too old and too gruff on Brock IMO.
One problem with TPCI in general is they cannot voice direct well at all hence we get subpar voice acting in general IMO, and it spans almost all the media they've dubbed too so it's not just the current NY cast (and the Goldfarb music has bled into Evolutions, they order him to change it too so clearly TPCI itself is the issue). They just don't care about the Series beyond advertising.
Ironically for all the crap they did, 4Kids did a better job despite going to hell later on and dying out. Not that they'd do it better now, but TPCI's big mistake in late 2006 was not retaining those VAs and writers when they could've bought them out during the change and brought them back in 2008 too 2 years in.
