Doesn't matter what you got as there's something weak against it in the area and there's things that you can catch there that are strong against the others. Just make sure you're stocked up on Pokeballs and Potions or at least have the stuff to make them in the wild.
PLA is Monster Hunter-lite with turnbased combat systems. Get good at dodging and you won't have to rely on random fucks to get your dropped inventory due to getting murdered by Pokemon outside of battles.
Also since you just picked up the game you missed out on some free shit (none of it is necessary, just extra shit and some free clothing) but you can still get a Zoroark mask. Granted it's the Shiny one so it's got purple accents instead of red.
By the way if you have save files from Pokemon games on the Switch you get free shit:
BDSP gets you a free and admittedly nice Team Galactic costume and a post-game Dialga encounter.
Let's Go gets you a very stupid circular mask with Pikachu or Eevee face printed on it.
SwSh gets you a post-game Shaymin and a so-so Shaymin themed outfit.
