This Pokémon, while cool, is really nothing special. He was much cooler in the early days because back then, simply being a “Ghost” type Pokémon at all was a neat thing in itself; he did not require a more detailed or unique design to distinguish himself like future Ghost Pokémon did, as he and his pre-evolutions were the first of their kind and needed only be the simple, straightforward, palatable ghosts that they are. I feel that his design has not aged all that well in the face of Ghost-types spawned from more visually and conceptually intriguing ideas, and I grow weary of people endlessly jerking him off as though he’s the pinnacle of his typing. He’s just a simple blue figure with an evil grin on his face—good, but nothing great.
