Despite having steady and believable growth for some reason they insist on making all of his key fights Ash's Pokemon becomes a glorified punching bag for 7 minutes before GUTS AND YAMATO DAMASHII-ing is way through everything. I don't doubt he could believably battle Cynthia and give her a run for her money, maybe even win if he dipped into his reserves. But i feel like his win in the upcoming episode is just going to be his Mega Lucario or GMax Gengar plot armouring their way through to victory.
