Reminder that Sugimori knew gen 2 was a rehash and that's why he wanted to make 3 a reboot before settling on mostly new pokemon. He also said that gen 2 pokemon were too babyish and merch fodder so went the opposite direction for gen 3 with ugly pokemon like blaziken shich challenged the players attatchment

I mean, it is the generation of Voltorb, Electrode, Ghastly, Gengar, Clefairy, Clefable, Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff kinda, Shellder kinda, Exeggcute, Magnemite, Oddish, Gloom, Vileplume, Venonat, Digglet, Dugtrio, Mankey, Primeape, Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, Geodude, Graveler, Golem, Doduo and Dodrio are not round but are a bunch or circles, Koffing, Weezing, Chansey, Tangela, Seaking.
Maybe they used triangles for ears and eyes, but it is probably the gen with the most round, circular and oval bodies.

Fair enough, though over half of those, like the Clefairy line, Geodude line, Gengar, etc. don't really help your case s they're aren't circles in quite the same way Gastly, Jigglypuff, Natu, Marrill, etc. are.

IVs already existed as DVs, but IVs are technically more complicated. DVs range from 0-15 and exist for Attack, Defense, Speed, and Special (one value utilized for both Sp. Atk and Sp. Def). The HP DV is simply the combined first bits of the other four, so if all four of your DVs are 8+, you'll have 15 DVs in HP. They ultimately function as an additional DV*2 points to your final stat. For IVs, HP is now its own random value and Special is two stats. The random value is now 0-31. Your odds of getting all perfect DVs is 1/(2^16) (65,536), while your odds of getting all perfect IVs is 1/(2^30) (1,073,741,824). The amount of autism required for Gen III onward is much higher, though Gen I and II shouldn't have it to begin with.

EVs existed as stat experience. Basically every stat has a hidden experience cap of 65,535, and the experience you gain is based on the base stats of Pokémon you defeat, so a Mew would give 100 points to each stat. Capped and at level 100, it's equivalent to 63 additional points in a stat. I like this idea in the sense it makes trained Pokémon stronger than wild ones, and my problem is just that there's no visual indicator beyond the player's own calculations. Gen III made it more readable by turning it into a smaller range (255), but added a hard limit of 512 across the entire Pokémon which encourages autistic min-maxing with hidden values. Turning stat experience into smaller points was a good idea (3 points = beating a Pokémon with a BST of 771 in an older game, and this is when 590 was highest in Gen I and 680 in Gen II), but everything else about it sucks.

And natures just encourage more autism. Compounded with the other changes, it made the games needlessly more complex.

Honestly getting rid of day of the week and time of day mechanics was probably a good idea overall. While I agree that they add flavor and life to the region it also makes certain pokemon and items annoying to get for people with school or jobs.

As a kid it only made the game better. It meant each day I played there was something different, and if I was playing on Saturday morning/night I'd get to find all different Pokemon from my usual weekday play sessions. It made me invested to continue playing each day.

Pokemania didn't die to one sole source, it died as a result of culture's rapid evolution as a whole alongside the similarly rapidly maturing youth.
You need to factor in that there was also shit like Yu-Gi-Oh, Harry Potter, the Star Wars Prequels, the PS2 showing up and mogging Nintendo so hard that everyone was reminded Nintendo is where all the "baby games" go, older kids moving to the PS2 for games like GTA and younger kids wanting to be "cool" like the older kids, and ultimately natural fad decay.

And even then Pokémonia was already on the decline by the time GS came out anyways. and GSC were worshipped on release. Gen2's only fuck ups were not the games putting enough emphasis on the NEW Pokemon and was the anime being full of bland filler which distracted from the genuine good moments. And Gen3's only fuck up was not allowing transfers AND not having the old Pokemon available right away, but even it the Pokémon fanbase had been growing out of the franchise anyway.
