>>51068884This is a difficult question to answer since "generation" refers to the timeframe the game was released in rather than the region/game it was based on in the case of remakes. This makes it hard to rank, say, Gen VI, which has XY which is merely "pretty good" alongside ORAS, which is definitely the best version of Hoenn.
All in all, I think I would say the series has broadly gotten better over time. 8>7>6>5>4>3>2>1. Maaaaaybe 1 and 2 over 3 if we're counting spinoffs.
