However, when Ash was originally an idiotic beginner in Kanto, he had a humorous, goofy, cocky personality, which let him play off Misty really well. In Unova, Ash is a fucking moron but is also a bland mass market kid hero. So Iris is just relentlessly bullying an ineffectual lobotomy victim.
JN Ash has once again had some personality stripped from him following SM but he's at least got something. He's also competent, so they play off of each other much better.
Anyway I love Iris. Her champion design is really cool.
