Do people think Ash wanted to use Infernape in that battle just because he self-inserted as Flint while watching him on tv?

Its in the same vein as people that think Ash cares about battling Cynthia this season. People just use it to justify their headcanon.

Because Cynthia has the reputation of being the toughest champion (and unlike Leon actually earned that reputation both in games and anime) so people are excited about Ash beating her. She's the moral final boss in the anime.
