Recently bought a Switch and wanted to play some mons
Used to be a hardcore fan but the games kinda got worse over time and fell out of love with the franchise (last games I played were SM)
Sword/Shield definitely look like crap, is Legends Arceus any good? Seems like a nice change of pace but I learned not to trust Game Freak

Main things that sparked any amount of enjoyment for me was the focus on catching and collecting (everything in one game, no need for trading shite), there was variance in how you caught things (battle and whittle down, or go for the stealth hit with the ball out of combat) and the agile/strong moves giving some small extra dimension to pokemon combat.
Also, provided you weren't overleveled, the last trainer fight was actually kinda tough and after the last few pokemon games were pushovers the whole way through, that was a breath of fresh air

Also going into that fight blind was a wild ride. I'm used to Pokemon games babying me. Having to fight a full team of six, and then fight a legendary, and then fight it a second time in a stronger form with no healing in-between and no checkpoint if you lose was wild ride. I was not ready for it the first time.
