I get the impression people overstimate how popular PokeSpe actually is
In reality it's not even the only official Pokémon manga ever produced, and despite of being the most well-known of the bunch it seems only actually be consumed by a small percentage of the Pokémon fanbase who swear by it and how these are the "superior" version of the game events and its characters spoiler: it's not, even though arguably even the TCG is more mainstream to normies than it

There's this weird correlation where when the game story is good (or even the game itself), then the manga drops the ball hard, but when the game's story sucks then the manga becomes kino.

Examples:
>Emerald the game is great but the arc is one of the worst
>D/P were meh, but the manga has a great friendship arc and probably the best portrayal of Cyrus
>Platinum improved the game, manga arc feels like filler
>HGSS-BW2 some of the best games, while some of the worst manga arcs
>XY has a laughable story, while the manga has some of the best character dynamics
And so on.

"Pokemon Festival of Champions".
It's basically a very loose adaptation of the gameverse in an ashnime style annihilation Pokemon league. It combines the storylines from the games and the best parts of the ashnime battle stuff, it has the DP strategy tension and the XY crazy battle visuals with the OS heartfelt writing.
I think it's really underrated especially compared to stuff like PokeSpe.
Haven't read PokeSpe yet, it's on my "to do" list after Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete.
