>>51084966I started playing it on and off recently. Only made it to part 2 so far, so I can't say much for how the whole game is going to pan out. It's got my attention, and I'm a sucker for most of the main Digimon they chose to pair with cast members so I'll probably see it through.
The settings, backgrounds, and characters all look very nice. I dig the style. Plot-wise it starts like you're playing through the first episode of the anime; school trip to some shrine, chaperones unable to keep kids together, some get sucked into the digital world. There's the concept of Digimon leaking over to the human world in the past and villages thinking they're some kind of deities that would spirit away kids on occasion, so that's fun.
The visual novel aspect doesn't have too much going for it. It flat out tells you which conversations will further the story and most of the padding text so far has been kind of bland. Each meaningful decision is split into three choices, red, green, or yellow. So far it has been fairly spooky with the ambiance. Some mons are dark and shadowy with glowing eyes, there's a looming fog, haunted schoolhouse setting, and many characters like to state that they could die. They have tried one "jumpscare" so far.
Combat is pretty fun if you like grid style combat. I will say it seems pretty easy with a lot of affinity buffs bouncing around at the end of the turn if you keep your squad close. Emphasis on placing your mons carefully and paying attention to where they're facing.
